Dallisgrass

Dallisgrass is a very stubborn, difficult-to-control, perennial grassy weed. It spreads by underground rhizomes, and it’s the same type of grass as Bermuda. You see the problem here? Anything that benefits your Bermuda will benefit the dallisgrass and anything that harms the dallisgrass can harm the Bermuda. You will see dallisgrass from late spring through late fall, just like Bermuda.

If you have a dallisgrass problem, we will recommend our grassy weed applications the first year. No one wants to pay for extra applications, but for the first year, it will be worth it! Our main objective is to get the weeds out, and we know that you want the quickest results possible. Dallisgrass requires repeated applications to accomplish this, so you will have several applications back-to-back, possibly just a week apart.

Unfortunately, there is no pre-emergent for dallisgrass, which we must treat with a post-emergent. These post-emergents do not work in cooler weather, so if you are just starting the service, it will be late spring, early summer, before we can begin to control the dallisgrass.

When we spray dallsigrass, you will see a temporary yellowing in your lawn (remember, dallisgrass is the same kind of grass as your lawn.)  This can be unsightly, but it's the only way to do it, and if you mow and water properly, your lawn should recover quickly.

As always, your best defense against weeds is a thick, healthy lawn, especially with weeds that spread like dallisgrass. Proper mowing and watering are crucial to helping control dallisgrass.
